Minister Pokharel calls for greater youth engagement in sports

KATHMANDU: Minister for Youth and Sports Sasmit Pokharel has emphasized the need to increase youth participation in sports, stressing that engagement should begin at the school level and extend through local clubs and grassroots initiatives.

Speaking at a program organized in his honor by the National Sports Council (NSC) today, Minister Pokharel said sports bodies must play a proactive role in developing athletes capable of enhancing the nation’s prestige on the international stage.

Rastriya Swatantra Party lawmaker Achyutam Lamichhane underscored the importance of strengthening the Nepal Sports Science Academy to make it more effective.

During the event, NSC Member-Secretary Ramcharitra Mehta briefed the Minister on the council’s structure, including its board and working committee, as well as its responsibilities, budget, infrastructure status, and ongoing activities.
