President announces winter session of parliament on January 31

President Ram Chandra Paudel has called the winter session of both houses of the federal parliament.

According to the Office of the President, the session has been summoned on the recommendation of the Council of Ministers in accordance with Article 93 (1) of the Constitution of Nepal.

The session is scheduled for 1 PM on Friday, January 31, at the parliament building in New Baneshwar, following the Cabinet’s recommendation on January 21.

Donald Trump, sworn in as the 47th President of the United States,  has made significant decisions on his first day in office.

Amid thousands of supporters, Trump announced his second-term priorities, including withdrawing the U.S. from the Paris Climate Agreement. With this decision, the U.S. joins countries like Iran, Libya, and Yemen in distancing itself from the accord.

Trump also has declared a national emergency at the U.S.-Mexico border, emphasizing his commitment to securing the nation.

Rabi reaches Bhairahawa with wife for court appearance

Rastriya Swatantra Party Chair and former Managing Director of Gorkha Media Network, Rabi Lamichhane, has arrived in Bhairahawa on Tuesday to appear before the Rupandehi District Court in connection with the Supreme Savings and Credit Cooperative fraud case.

Lamichhane, accompanied by his wife Nikita Poudel, landed in Bhairahawa on Buddha Air flight U4-859 Tuesday afternoon. He is staying at Hotel Marigold ahead of his court appearance.

The supplementary charge sheet filed on January 19 accuses Lamichhane of involvement in embezzling over Rs 40 million from the cooperative.

Pokhara High Court seeks clarification report on release of Rabi and seven others on bail

The High Court in Pokhara has called for a clarification report regarding the release of seven individuals, including Rabi Lamichhane, in connection with the Suryadarshan Cooperative savings embezzlement case.

Justice Raju Kumar Khatri’s bench issued the order on Tuesday, signaling a review of the Kaski District Court’s decision on procedural and legal grounds.

Earlier, the Kaski District Court had granted bail to Rabi Lamichhane, Chair of the Rastriya Swatantra Party, and six others accused of organized crime, cooperative fraud, and money laundering.

Prachanda predicts collapse of coalition govt

Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal has expressed doubts about the longevity of the coalition government led by the Nepali Congress and UML.

Speaking to media representatives at Bharatpur Airport in Chitwan on Tuesday, Dahal speculated that the KP Sharma Oli-led government is unlikely to endure.

“We do not think this government will last long. I have said this clearly. This coalition is not natural. It is not transparent either. Its work is also going backwards. It has become a shameful situation when it comes to the ordinance,” Dahal remarked.

CAN bans Sandeep Lamichhane for code of conduct violation

The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has suspended star cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane for one match after finding him guilty of violating its code of conduct.

Lamichhane, who is captaining Bagmati Province in the ongoing Jay Trophy Elite Cup, publicly criticized umpiring decisions through social media.

His dissatisfaction with what he claimed were ‘wrong decisions’ by the umpires led to disciplinary action. Criticizing umpiring decisions is deemed a breach of CAN’s code of conduct.
