KATHMANDU: Mayor Harka Sampang entered Singha Durbar on Tuesday to meet Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and Water Supply Minister Pradeep Yadav to address Dharan’s longstanding water crisis.
Despite repeated appeals to the Ministry of Water Supply for action, Mayor Sampang complained of inaction, forcing him to come to Kathmandu to press the government for a long-term solution to Dharan’s water woes.
Earlier, Sampang had arrived in Kathmandu on Monday carrying an emptygagri (a water pot) to symbolize Dharan’s water shortage.
However, police confiscated the pot at the south gate of Singha Durbar, citing heightened security measures. Undeterred, the mayor proceeded to enter the government complex empty-handed.
Mayor Sampang stressed that he would continue to pressure the government until the water crisis in Dharan is resolved. His primary demand is for the central government to allocate funds for a project to bring water from the Saptakoshi River to Dharan.
