HUMLA: The District Administration Office has resumed the distribution of temporary entry passes for Nepali citizens traveling to Taklakot, the autonomous region of Tibet in China, for business purposes.

The distribution follows the seasonal reopening of access routes via the northern border of Namkha Rural Municipality in Humla district.

According to Chief District Officer (CDO) Narayan Pandey, a total of 374 new temporary entry passes have been issued, while several previously issued passes have been renewed.

The passes are being distributed to individuals traveling to and from border points such as Tumkot, Yalwang, Hilsa, and Yari en route to Taklakot in Purang County.

“So far, 7,545 individuals have obtained temporary entry passes from the District Administration Office for travel to Taklakot,” said CDO Pandey.

Due to the closure of the steep rocky road at the Yari border during the winter because of snow, travelers have had to undertake a challenging journey on foot. “We had to walk downhill for about two hours to reach Hilsa, as vehicles can only go as far as Yari. It takes about four hours uphill on foot to return from Hilsa to Yari,” he said.

CDO Pandey added that in one instance, while returning from Taklakot, he issued renewed entry passes to two individuals who had followed him on foot for the purpose.

The reopening of the border and resumption of entry pass services is expected to facilitate local cross-border trade and support the livelihoods of residents in the remote mountain district.
