Landslide in Tuin river area blocks Narayangadh-Muglin road

CHITWAN: A massive landslide in the Tuin River area has blocked the Narayangadh-Muglin road section, disrupting traffic since Friday evening. The landslide, which began around 6:00 PM, has buried approximately 100 meters of the road.

According to Narayangadh Lamichhane, Chief of the Division Road Office in Chitwan, the landslide originated from about 100 meters above the road and continued throughout the night, making it impossible to begin clearance operations until daylight.

“Due to continuous rockfall, clearing the debris overnight was not feasible,” Lamichhane said. “However, work began early this morning with loaders deployed from both ends of the blockage.” An excavator from the Seti Dobhan Camp has also been dispatched to assist with the clearance.

Lamichhane estimates that, if no additional landslides occur, the road could be reopened within four hours. Several smaller landslides in the area were cleared earlier on Friday, but the road had to be closed again after 6:00 PM, leaving many commuters stranded overnight.

The landslide site is located approximately 2.5 kilometers from Muglin towards Narayangadh.
