34 dead, several missing after tourist boat capsizes in Vietnam

VIETNAM: At least 34 people have lost their lives, and several others are still missing after a tourist boat capsized in Vietnam’s Ha Long Bay during a severe storm.

The boat, Wonder Seas, was carrying 53 passengers—mostly Vietnamese families from Hanoi—when it was struck by a sudden and violent storm on Saturday afternoon, according to reports from the Vietnamese Border Guards and navy.

Rescue teams have so far pulled 11 survivors from the water. However, ongoing search and rescue operations have been hindered by heavy rainfall and rough sea conditions.

One eyewitness described the storm as unexpectedly intense, with large hailstones, heavy downpours, thunder, and lightning striking the area suddenly.
