Impersonators caught in police recruitment exam, seven held in custody



KATHMANDU: In a shocking revelation, seven individuals have been arrested for attempting to take part in the police recruitment exam on behalf of others. Six were caught from an exam center in Kathmandu and one from Pokhara.

While cheating in school and university exams is not new—particularly in some districts of the Tarai-Madhesh region—this incident has sparked concern as it involves the very institution responsible for upholding the law.

According to Kathmandu District Police spokesperson SP Apil Raj Bohora, the arrests in Kathmandu took place at the Ratna Rajya Secondary School exam center in Mid-Baneshwor. The impersonators were found taking the exam under different names and include individuals from Dolakha, Kalikot, Surkhet, Dailekh, and Jumla, currently residing in areas like Balaju, Lainchaur, and New Baneshwor.

In Pokhara, a woman was caught sitting for the exam using the identity of another registered candidate. Based on a tip, a police team from Baidam arrested Gyanuta Bishwakarma while she was writing the exam under the name Arati Kumari Mandal at the Public Service Commission’s exam center in Pardi.

All seven are currently in police custody, and authorities are conducting further investigations to uncover the extent of the impersonation network.
