RPP to march towards prohibited area

KATHMANDU: The Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) is planning to move from Bijuli Bazaar Bridge to New Baneshwor, defying government-imposed restrictions in the area.

RPP Chairman Rajendra Lingden said the demonstration aims to protest what he called the government’s “authoritarian attitude.”

“This is a symbolic and peaceful demonstration against a government that preaches democracy and republicanism but restricts citizens’ voices and movement,” Lingden said. “From an ideological standpoint, the RPP is the true opposition. We do what we say, and we are not afraid of the government.”

The party plans to gather near the Archbridge at Bijuli Bazaar and proceed toward Baneshwor Bridge via the Everest Hotel, according to party leaders.

Although only a limited number of RPP members will take part in the protest, the party has emphasized its intent to “break the ban” in line with a decision made during its recent central working committee meeting.

In anticipation of the protest, a heavy police presence has been deployed in the restricted zone stretching from Baneshwor Bridge to the Parliament building. RPP spokesperson Mohan Shrestha confirmed the party’s commitment to carrying out a peaceful demonstration while condemning the government’s attempt to suppress dissent.
