Swayambhu Festival to showcase local identity and culture



KATHMANDU: The first-ever Swayambhu Festival is set to take place from February 22 to March 1 at Bhuinkhel Chaur, Swayambhu, aiming to promote local identity and cultural heritage.

Organized by Kathmandu Municipal Corporation, Ward No. 15, the festival seeks to highlight the area’s natural beauty, religious and cultural structures, ancient monuments, and traditional customs.

Ward Chair Ishwarman Dangol stated that the event will celebrate Swayambhu’s rich history by showcasing monasteries, temples, chaityas, sattals, and viharas.

The festival will also feature an exhibition of local products, including handicrafts, garments, vegetables, and fruits produced by local entrepreneurs and organizations trained in livelihood skills.

Visitors can explore displays of traditional musical instruments, cultural and ritualistic photographs depicting life events from birth to death, images related to the life of Buddha, as well as collections of postage stamps and historical currencies.

In addition to cultural exhibitions, the festival will offer food stalls, health check-ups, blood donation drives, Ranjana script writing sessions, face painting, cultural performances, entertainment programs, and sports activities.

The Swayambhu Festival aims to celebrate and preserve local traditions while promoting community engagement and cultural awareness.
