KATHMANDU: A wildfire that broke out in the forest area of Dakshinkali on Tuesday evening has destroyed over 30 hectares of forest, according to local authorities.
The blaze started around 4 p.m. in the Bansbari area of Ward No. 4 and has since spread to Ward Nos. 3 and 1, confirmed Mohan Basnet, Mayor of Dakshinkali Municipality. Despite ongoing efforts by the Municipal Police, Nepal Police, and local residents, the fire has not been fully contained.
“The forest fire is under partial control compared to the previous day, but the risk of it spreading further remains due to the presence of burnt tree stubs,” Mayor Basnet said.
Fortunately, the threat to human settlements has been mitigated as a road separates the residential areas from the forest.
Efforts are ongoing to bring the fire under control and prevent further damage.
