KATHMANDU: Nepal suffered a narrow one-wicket loss to Scotland in their second match of the ICC U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup in Malaysia.
The match, held at the UKM Oval Cricket Ground, saw Scotland chase down Nepal’s modest target of 74 runs in 18.4 overs, with just one wicket in hand.
Scotland’s top scorer, Pippa Sproul, anchored the innings with 35 runs off 47 balls, including three boundaries. Gabriella Fontenla added a crucial 12 runs to the chase.
Nepal’s bowlers fought valiantly, with Simana KC and Rachana Chaudhary claiming two wickets each, while captain Pooja Mahato and Krishma Gurung picked up one wicket each.
Earlier, Nepal struggled with the bat after electing to bat first. They were bowled out for 73 runs in 18.5 overs. Captain Pooja Mahato top-scored with 27 runs off 43 balls, hitting three fours. Sabitri Dhami contributed 10 runs, but the rest of the batting lineup faltered, failing to reach double figures.
Scotland’s Maisie Maceira delivered a match-winning performance with the ball, taking five wickets. Ammy Baldie and Nayma Sheikh each claimed two wickets, while Kirsty McColl secured one.
This marks Nepal’s second consecutive defeat in the tournament, having lost to Bangladesh in their opening match.
Meanwhile, Scotland, who had earlier lost to Australia, strengthened their chances of advancing to the Super Six stage with this win.
