Govt vows to intensify fight against human trafficking: Minister Shrestha



MORANG: Minister for Women, Children and Senior Citizens, Shraddha Shrestha, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to preventing human trafficking, recognizing it as a serious crime.

Speaking at the opening of a two-day seminar hosted by the Ministry and Maiti Nepal in Biratnagar on the challenges of human trafficking and exploitation along the Nepal-India border, Minister Shrestha emphasized the importance of enhanced collaboration between the two countries to stop such criminal acts.

She highlighted the Ministry’s dedication to implementing strategic initiatives for the immediate rescue and protection of trafficking victims, adding that measures will be promptly developed to prevent the trafficking of women.

Anuradha Koirala, Chairperson of Maiti Nepal, noted that the organization has been fighting human trafficking for three decades, raising public awareness and supporting rescue and rehabilitation efforts. She stressed that the trafficking of adolescent girls, fueled by illiteracy, unemployment, and other lures, requires joint action from society, organizations, and government agencies.

Nagesh Koirala, Mayor of Biratnagar Metropolitan City, acknowledged the serious threat of human trafficking in Nepal and emphasized that its prevention is possible through coordinated efforts.
