Postal Service Department issues stamp honoring Sardar Bhim Bahadur Pandey

KATHMANDU: The Postal Service Department has released a commemorative stamp featuring Sardar Bhim Bahadur Pandey.

The first-day cover ceremony was held today in Kathmandu, where Minister for Communication and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung, affixed the first stamp.

Minister Gurung highlighted the importance of using stamps to honor patriots and national servants, saying, “Stamps preserve history and help recognize such figures at both national and international levels.”

Sardar Pandey, a descendant of the sixth generation of the patriotic Kaji Kalu Pandey, was the first Nepali to complete a postgraduate degree in commerce in India. He made significant contributions to administration, diplomacy, writing, and social service. The stamp was issued in recognition of his lifelong dedication, Minister Gurung added, noting that it will also inspire the younger generation.

In recent times, the Postal Service Department has increasingly issued stamps featuring patriots, politicians, endangered traditional crops, cultural practices, and everyday life to promote national heritage.

Family members of Sardar Pandey attended the ceremony. His eldest son, Himalaya Pandey, expressed that the stamp issuance brought great honor to the entire family.

Communication Secretary Radhika Aryal said she has always been inspired by Sardar Pandey’s life, struggles, and contributions. Director General of the Postal Service Department, Manmaya Pangeni Bhattarai, noted that issuing stamps in the name of national servants like Sardar Pandey helps preserve the country’s historical records.
