Sumedha Air to open headquarters at Durbarmarg

KATHMANDU: Sumedha Air, a newly licensed helicopter operator in Nepal, is set to inaugurate its corporate headquarters at Durbarmarg, Kathmandu.

The company will begin official operations next week, with senior executives and management teams operating out of the new office. The venture is backed by prominent Non-Resident Nepali entrepreneur Niraj Govinda Shrestha.

Sumedha Air plans to induct three Airbus H125 helicopters within a year of obtaining its Air Operator Certificate (AOC) from the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN).

A four-member CAAN committee—comprising representatives from flight dispatch, airworthiness, the Air Transport Department, and a senior pilot—has been formed to review the company’s documentation for AOC approval.

Entering the market with bold ambitions, Sumedha Air aims to secure a major share of Nepal’s helicopter aviation sector. Industry sources suggest the company is exploring potential mergers with smaller operators as part of its growth and consolidation strategy.

Nepal currently has 12 licensed helicopter companies operating around 40 aircraft. The sector primarily supports rescue and emergency medical services, trekking and tourism logistics, VIP and charter flights, cargo transport to remote areas, and government operations.
