New Executive Committee Takes Charge at Nepal Bar Association

KATHMANDU: The newly elected executive committee of the Nepal Bar Association, led by Prof. Dr. Bijay Kant Mishra, officially assumed office on Saturday.

During the annual general meeting and handover ceremony organized by the Bar Association, the outgoing committee led by former president Gopal Krishna Ghimire transferred responsibilities to the new leadership.

The election for the 27th central executive committee was held on Chaitra 23. Senior Advocate Mishra represented the Broad Democratic, Progressive, Professional, Nationalist, and Inclusive Lawyers’ Group, while Senior Advocate Raman Kumar Shrestha contested from the Professional Lawyers’ Group. The election resulted in the selection of 25 new committee members.

In his address, newly elected president Mishra expressed his commitment to steering the Bar away from political influence and strengthening it as a united and effective institution advocating for the professional rights of lawyers.

“We will work to implement the commitments made in our election manifesto and ensure transparency and results-oriented activities while maintaining political neutrality,” Mishra said.

Speaking at the event, Mishra’s opponent Shrestha emphasized that political parties and the government should not exert direct influence over the Bar. He stated that such interference would be unacceptable.

“The Bar must independently advocate for lawyers’ rights and address concerns regarding the judiciary,” Shrestha added.

Other speakers at the event, chaired by Senior Advocate Krishna Prasad Bhandari, advised the new leadership to honor the legacy of past leaders and work in a fair and impartial environment.
