Ordinances for spurring national economy, good governance: Minister Gurung

KATHMANDU: Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung, has said opposing ordinances was meaningless because the ordinances were brought for people’s welfare and country’s prosperity.

The Minister Gurung asserted that the ordinances were brought to make the country’s economy further dynamic, to address the problems of cooperative sector and to sustainably resolve the problems facing landless squatters.

Addressing the 64th anniversary of the Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS) here Wednesday, he said they were surprised after seeing the objection of opposition parties to ordinance instead of making arguments on the contents of the ordinances.

Also the Spokesperson of the government, Gurung argued that there was no alternative to pass the ordinances brought to serve the people and to maintain good governance. He urged all political parties to extend cooperation for the endorsement of the ordinances.

The Minister clarified that no results were experienced as expected because it took long time to bring new laws and revise the old laws and policies.

He stressed that all government bodies should be fully democratic and inclusive, and added that there should be healthy competition along with rule of law in democracy. “We have now given emphasis on necessary policy transformation”, the Minister reminded.

Stating that alliance of two major political parties— Nepali Congress and CPN (UML)— was formed by realizing that the democracy was at risk in recent period. He expressed belief that the incumbent government would be successful to guarantee the democracy along with development and prosperity.

In his view, Nepal needs to adopt a ‘comprehensive inclusive democracy’ hereafter.

He further said the ministry was always positive to make state-owned media further systematic and timely. The state-owned media must not limit themselves to share government views, but cover people’s views widely from across the country, Gurung stressed.

Minister Gurung appreciated that the RSS has been playing its role effectively.

He thanked RSS for doing constructive activities like setting up RSS archive, expanding its news services in various languages as well as stretching the service hours round the clock.
