Chinese New Year celebrated in Thamel (In pictures)



KATHMANDU: The Chinese New Year was celebrated with great enthusiasm in Kathmandu on Sunday, as Chinese and Nepali artists came together to mark the occasion in Thamel.

The event featured a variety of cultural performances, showcasing both Nepali and Chinese traditions. The vibrant performances included traditional Chinese dance, music, and lion dances, which are iconic to the celebrations.

Nepali artists also presented local cultural performances, making the event a true fusion of both cultures.

Lunar New Year is also associated with the animals of the Chinese zodiac, and 2025 is the Year of the Snake.

Deputy Speaker Indira Rana, Chinese Ambassador Chen Song, and other prominent figures attended the event, highlighting the importance of strengthening ties between Nepal and China through cultural exchange.

Chinese New Year, also known as the Spring Festival, is celebrated worldwide with various festivities, marking the beginning of the lunar new year.

The celebrations in Kathmandu were filled with joy, symbolizing a new start and promoting peace and prosperity for the year ahead. Traditional customs such as giving red envelopes, enjoying festive foods, and honoring ancestors were also observed.

The celebrations in Thamel brought together people from diverse backgrounds, fostering goodwill and understanding between the Nepali and Chinese communities.
