Economy gaining momentum over past three months: Finance Minister Khanal

KATHMANDU: Finance Minister Rameshwor Prasad Khanal has said that Nepal’s economy has gradually become more dynamic over the past three months, citing recent economic indicators.

Speaking at the inauguration of the ‘Gorkhapatra Discourse’ organized by the Gorkhapatra Corporation with coordination from the Gorkhapatra Academy on Thursday, Minister Khanal said data from the last three months confirm that the country’s economy is on a recovery path.

He said the economy has shown signs of revival following the Gen-Z youth movement, adding that government revenue has increased by around 10 percent during this period.

“Revenue collection has grown by approximately 10 percent over the past three months. Productivity and production are increasing, and even Chinese investors have appreciated the interim government for making short-term improvements and creating an investment-friendly environment,” Minister Khanal said.

He added that the government is working in a planned manner to address existing economic challenges, manage liquidity and create a favorable investment climate for sustainable economic development.

Nepal Rastra Bank Governor Prof. Dr. Biswo Nath Paudel said Gorkhapatra’s initiatives have helped expand the knowledge base, noting that archival newspapers can serve as valuable resources for economic research and study.

Highlighting the need for sustainable infrastructure development for long-term growth, Governor Paudel said Nepal Rastra Bank is prepared to support the government in creating an environment where higher public spending is possible.

He also encouraged private entrepreneurs to work with high morale and expressed confidence that fair and impartial upcoming elections would help ensure political stability.

Gorkhapatra Corporation Managing Director Lal Bahadur Airee said the discourse was organized to fill existing gaps in Nepal’s economic debate by fostering discussions alongside news reporting, with the aim of addressing challenges and spreading optimism.
