Gen-Z protest: Five more arrested for vandalism



KAVRE: Police have arrested five more individuals involved in arson, vandalism, and looting of various structures in the district during the Gen Z protest on September 9.

According to the District Police Office, the arrests were made in connection with attacks on government buildings, police offices, and other properties.

Those arrested have been identified as 21-year-old Ajay Tamang of Dhulikhel Municipality-3, 21-year-old Bishal Bholan of Khanikhola Rural Municipality-1, 22-year-old Rabindra Pariyar of Banepa Municipality-3, and 19-year-old Abhi Sudhakar of the same ward.

Police have stated that Bholan already had a drug-related case registered against him at the Banepa Area Police Office, while Sudhakar had a vehicular homicide case filed in 2079 BS. Investigations are ongoing, and the remand period of the accused has been extended.

Earlier, Kavrepalanchok police had arrested 12 individuals for their involvement in arson, vandalism, and looting of government and private buildings during the Gen-Z movement.

The District Police Office is continuing its investigation based on complaints filed across different locations and is searching for others involved in the criminal activities. District Police Chief SP Komal Shah said a special investigation team has been mobilized after receiving complaints about damage to six private properties.

So far, the office has arrested 11 people involved in vandalizing and torching police offices under its jurisdiction, and further legal action is underway. In total, 18 government and private structures were severely damaged in the district during the protests.

Additionally, police have arrested 53 inmates who had escaped from various prisons during the Gen Z unrest; they have since been handed over to the respective authorities through the District Jail in Dhulikhel.

Meanwhile, police have arrested 53 individuals who were imprisoned or fined in the first four months of the current fiscal year. These arrests were made based on a list of around 600 convicts sent by the court for execution of verdicts.
