PM Karki, Indian counterpart Modi to hold talks today

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister (PM) Sushila Karki and her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi are scheduled to hold talks today (Thursday) via video conference, according to the Prime Minister’s Secretariat.

Earlier this week, Indian Ambassador to Nepal Naveen Srivastava paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Karki at Singha Durbar. During their meeting, Ambassador Srivastava reaffirmed India’s longstanding commitment to supporting Nepal’s progress and prosperity, emphasizing India’s support for peace, good governance, and stability in Nepal, which are crucial for development and reconstruction efforts.

Prime Minister Karki responded through the Ambassador that she looks forward to discussing issues of mutual interest in detail.

Prime Minister Modi had earlier congratulated Karki on her appointment and wished Nepal prosperity. In a program held in Manipur, he welcomed the formation of a civilian government in Nepal amid challenging circumstances.

Following the resignation of UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli from the Prime Minister’s post on September 9 due to the Gen-Z protests, President Ram Chandra Poudel appointed former Chief Justice Sushila Karki as the head of the interim government on the night of September 12.
