Report on School Education Bill presented to parliamentary committee

KATHMANDU: The report on the School Education Bill has been presented to the Education, Health and Information Technology Committee of the House of Representatives.

During Monday’s meeting at Singha Durbar, committee secretary Dasharath Dhamala handed over the report to committee chair Amar Bahadur Thapa.

After distributing the report to members, Thapa said two days have been allotted for its study. The report will be finalized in the next meeting based on the suggestions received, he added.

Thapa further stressed the importance of full scholarships for underprivileged students but emphasized the need for a responsible approach within the state’s financial capacity.

He suggested creating an environment where scholarships are shared between the government and private institutions to support students from poor backgrounds.

Earlier in the meeting, Education Minister Raghuji Pant noted that while most provisions of the bill had already been accepted by the government, he requested an additional two days for review. He also urged the committee to expedite the process, highlighting the significant delays in passing the bill.

The committee plans to discuss and pass the report in its next meeting on Bhadra 5 (August 21).
