Maoist Center will hit streets for voter rights: Prachanda

KATHMANDU: Chairperson of Maoist Center, Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, has said that his party is prepared to take to the streets, if necessary, to uphold the people’s demands and concerns.

He made these remarks while receiving a memorandum from the Nepal Voters’ Rights Forum on Friday, which included recommendations on the bill to amend and consolidate election-related laws.

“This initiative by the Voters’ Rights Forum is commendable,” said Chairman Prachanda. “However, change cannot come solely from submitting suggestions to political leaders. If necessary, we are ready to mobilize in the streets to ensure that the people’s demands are met.”

Receiving the letter at the Maoist party headquarters in Parisdanda, Prachanda reiterated that the Maoist Center holds a clear position on the electoral system and the need for constitutional amendments. He emphasized that the party has consistently raised its voice for necessary reforms in the electoral framework.

The Voters’ Rights Forum has submitted a list of demands to Prachanda, focusing on reforming the electoral system, ensuring inclusive representation, and safeguarding the rights of voters.
