Gyanendra Shahi and Kulman Ghising to receive Global Hero Award in New York

KATHMANDU: Nepali youth leader Gyanendra Shahi and former Nepal Electricity Authority Managing Director Kulman Ghising have been named recipients of this year’s prestigious Global Hero Award.

The award will be presented at a special ceremony on July 27 in New York City, organized by Global Nepali, a diaspora-led initiative that annually honors individuals who have made significant contributions to Nepal.

Shahi, currently the Chief Whip of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), is recognized for his active advocacy against corruption, good governance, and public accountability. Known as a youth leader and social campaigner, he has consistently raised issues affecting citizens’ daily lives.

Ghising, meanwhile, is widely credited with ending decades-long power outages—popularly known as load-shedding—during his tenure at the Nepal Electricity Authority. His leadership is hailed as a transformative achievement that brought direct improvements to the lives of millions of Nepalis.

The Global Hero Award serves as a platform to recognize and elevate the contributions of Nepalis who work tirelessly for the betterment of the country. The upcoming event in New York is expected to be attended by members of the Nepali diaspora as well as influential personalities from various sectors.

Global Nepali has been celebrating such changemakers on the international stage in an effort to highlight their dedication and inspire future leadership.
