KATHMANDU: Four people have died and 28 others have been injured in various natural disasters across the country over the past 24 hours, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA).
The NDRRMA reported that 50 districts have been affected by storms, floods, landslides, and other calamities brought on by changing weather patterns during the pre-monsoon season.
NDRRMA spokesperson Ram Bahadur KC stated that storms alone have claimed four lives and injured 21 people.
Additionally, two people were injured by lightning strikes, four by animal attacks, and one person sustained injuries from drowning.
A total of 94 disaster-related incidents were recorded in the affected districts within the past 24 hours. The estimated economic loss from these events stands at Rs 18 million, and two livestock deaths have also been reported.
Among the incidents, windstorms were the most frequent, with 59 cases recorded, followed by 16 fires. Other events included lightning strikes, landslides, floods, and continuous rainfall.
According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, light to moderate rainfall is expected in some areas due to rising temperatures, with the possibility of thunderstorms and lightning in a few locations.
While weather conditions have slightly improved today compared to yesterday, skies remain mostly cloudy.
The current weather pattern is influenced by westerly and local winds, along with moisture-laden air from the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea, contributing to ongoing instability.
