KATHMANDU: A joint market monitoring team has intensified inspections of food and grocery stores, water industries, edible oil mills, and dairy industries operating within Chandragiri Municipality.

The team, which conducted on-site inspections using the advanced mobile laboratory FoodLab Van introduced by the Department of Food Technology and Quality Control, includes representatives from Chandragiri Municipality, the District Administration Office Kathmandu, Police Circle Thankot, and other regulatory bodies.

During a recent inspection on January 10, the team discovered 600 liters of milk prepared for sale by White Himalayan Milk Pvt. Ltd. in Balambu, Chandragiri-12, was inedible, testing positive for neutralizers. The substandard milk was immediately destroyed.

The team also discarded inedible ghee, butter, and paneer produced by the same industry. The municipality imposed a fine of Rs 200,000 on the company under the Consumer Protection Act.

The milk quality was assessed according to the Milk and Dairy Products Hygiene and Quality Directive. Additionally, mustard mills in Chandragiri Wards 11, 12, and 14 were inspected, with no signs of adulteration detected in the oil produced.

Last week, the monitoring team carried out surprise inspections of drinking water industries in Chandragiri Ward No. 8. The quality of water produced met the required standards, but some bottles and jars unsuitable for water storage were destroyed.
