PM Sushila Karki holds farewell meeting with Chinese Ambassador Chen Song
Prime Minister Sushila Karki held a courtesy farewell meeting with Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Chen Song on Wednesday. According to the Prime Minister’s Secretariat, Ambassador Song, who is completing his tenure and preparing to return to his home country, paid a farewell call on the Prime Minister at Singha Durbar. During the meeting, the two discussed various aspects of Nepal–China relations and matters of mutual interest. On the occasion, Ambassador Song said China, as a close friend of Nepal, has been extending support in all areas of Nepal’s development and would continue to do so in the future.
Two elephants gifted by Nepal depart for Qatar from Bhairahawa
Two elephants gifted by Nepal departed for Qatar on Wednesday from Gautam Buddha International Airport in Bhairahawa. The elephants, Khagendra Prasad and Rudrakali, were transported aboard a Qatar Airways Boeing 777F freighter operating flight number QR 8824. The aircraft took off shortly after 5 pm. The two elephants were brought to Bhairahawa from Chitwan on Tuesday in preparation for the transfer. The flight had earlier been diverted to Kolkata, India, due to adverse weather conditions.
Insurance companies pay over Rs 5 billion in claims for damages from Gen-Z movement
Insurance companies have paid more than Rs 5 billion in claims for damages incurred during the Gen-Z movement on September 9, according to the Nepal Insurance Authority. Out of a total of 3,303 insurance claims filed with insurers, the total claimed amount stands at around Rs 23.45 billion. Of this, insurance companies have so far paid approximately Rs 5.18 billion to insured parties, including advance payments. Based on updated data received from 14 non-life insurance companies and four micro non-life insurance companies, payments have been made across multiple insurance categories.
Slow voting, voter distress reported at UML 11th National Congress
Voters at the 11th National Congress of the CPN-UML faced difficulties as voting for the party’s new leadership progressed at a very slow pace on Wednesday. Although a total of 80 electronic voting machines were in use, the process remained sluggish. While electronic voting was expected to be faster than paper ballots, the large number of candidates caused confusion among delegates. Speaking to the media at the Congress Media Centre, Election Commission Vice-Chairperson Sanuraja Pokharel said many delegates struggled to identify candidates on their panel.
Nepal highly values United Nations, says PM on 70 years of Nepal–UN partnership

Delivering a statement at a program organized to mark 70 years of Nepal–UN partnership, Prime Minister Karki thanked the United Nations Office in Nepal for hosting the event and acknowledged the UN’s long-standing contribution to Nepal’s development and peace efforts.
Kamal Thapa says nationalists must complete unfinished agenda of Gen-Z movement
Rastriya Prajatantra Party Nepal (RPP Nepal) Chair Kamal Thapa has said the responsibility of completing the unfinished agenda of the Gen-Z youth movement has now fallen on nationalist forces. Addressing a gathering of the former police council affiliated with RPP Nepal, Thapa said there is growing public frustration and resentment toward the Nepali Congress and communist parties, prompting people to search for an alternative. He claimed that only nationalist forces have the capacity to emerge as that alternative.
Probe commission seeks one-month extension to investigate Gen-Z protest incidents
The probe commission investigating the incidents that occurred on September 8 and 9 has requested a one-month extension from the Prime Minister. Commission Chairperson Gauri Bahadur Karki stated that the extension is necessary to conduct a more thorough investigation. He stated that additional time is required to collect further evidence and record statements related to the incidents. According to Karki, the commission has formally discussed the matter with the Prime Minister, seeking an extension of its deadline to ensure a thorough investigation.
NEPSE gains 5.70 points, turnover rises to Rs 4.05 billion
The stock market posted modest gains on Wednesday, with the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index rising by 5.70 points to close at 2,625.70 points. Trading activity also improved, as total turnover increased to Rs 4.05 billion, up from Rs 3.44 billion recorded in the previous session. Share prices of 143 companies advanced, while 104 declined and 11 remained unchanged. The finance group led the market with a gain of 1.75 percent.
Supreme Court issues show-cause notice on NC’s writ against dissolution of HoR
The Supreme Court has issued a show-cause notice on the writ petition filed by the Nepali Congress challenging the dissolution of the House of Representatives. The writ, submitted by outgoing Chief Spokesperson Shyam Kumar Ghimire and others, names the President’s Office, Prime Minister Sushila Karki, the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, the Election Commission, and the Speaker of the House as respondents.
Shram Sanskriti Party suspends Vice Chair Rajkumar Tamang
The Shram Sanskriti Party has suspended its Vice Chair, Rajkumar Tamang (also known as Devaraj Lama), from his post. According to a statement signed by party Chairperson Hark Sampang, Tamang has been under investigation since August 17, due to political activities in recent years. The statement said the suspension aims to ensure that the ongoing government investigation is not influenced or pressured. He will remain suspended until the investigation concludes.
Madhesh CM Yadav to seek vote of confidence on Dec 19
Madhesh Province Chief Minister (CM) Krishna Prasad Yadav is set to seek a vote of confidence from the Provincial Assembly on December 19. Chief Minister Yadav sent a letter to the Provincial Assembly Secretariat on Wednesday, requesting arrangements for the confidence vote. In the letter, he stated: “I request you to make arrangements for taking a vote of confidence from the Provincial Assembly on Friday, December 19, 2025, at 4 pm, in accordance with Clause (4) of Article 168 of the Constitution of Nepal.”
Lalitpur Metropolitan celebrates 107th foundation day
Lalitpur Metropolitan City marked its 107th foundation day on Wednesday with a ceremony attended by Prime Minister Sushila Karki, Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal, and other dignitaries. Addressing the event, Prime Minister Karki said, “Our focus is currently on good governance and the upcoming elections. We are eager to transfer power to a government that reflects the people’s aspirations. Minister Ghising says efforts underway with India to release irrigation water from Tanakpur Barrage
Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Physical Infrastructure and Transport, and Urban Development Kulman Ghising has said that necessary initiatives and coordination are underway with India to release water into Nepal-bound canals from the Tanakpur Barrage in Kanchanpur to facilitate irrigation. Inspecting the Tanakpur Barrage located at Brahmadev on Wednesday morning under the third phase of the national pride Mahakali Irrigation Project, Minister Ghising said continuous discussions are being held with the Indian side through bilateral mechanisms and high-level meetings between the two countries. He added that official correspondence on the matter is also ongoing.
Silver price hits record high, crosses Rs 4,000 per tola
The price of silver reached a new record high in the domestic market on Wednesday, crossing Rs 4,000 per tola for the first time. According to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association, silver is being traded at Rs 4,055 per tola today. The price surged by Rs 170 per tola in a single day. On the previous day, silver was traded at Rs 3,885 per tola. This marks the second consecutive record within a week. Earlier, last Wednesday, silver had hit a then-record price of Rs 3,905 per tola.
UML General Convention: Vote counting to begin tonight
Voting is underway at Bhrikutimandap in Kathmandu to elect the new leadership of the CPN-UML. Delegates to the UML General Convention are casting their ballots using 80 voting machines. However, voters have reported that it takes up to half an hour for each person to vote despite the use of machines. UML Central Election Commission Secretary Dr. Kunsang Lama said the Commission aims to begin counting votes at midnight after voting concludes.
Finance Ministry tells provinces, local levels not to levy fees on goods transportation
The Ministry of Finance has told provincial and local governments to ensure that no taxes or fees are levied on the transportation of goods when roads are used solely for cargo movement. The ministry issued circulars to provincial governments through the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers and to local levels through the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration, requesting compliance with the provision.
Nepal reiterates anti-corruption stand at UN event
The Government of Nepal has reaffirmed its strong commitment to combating corruption in order to promote integrity and good governance. Secretary at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, Gobinda Bahadur Karki, made the commitment on Tuesday while addressing a session of the 11th Conference of States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC), themed “Shaping Tomorrow’s Integrity,” in Doha, Qatar.
