Supreme Court issues show-cause notice on NC’s writ against dissolution of HoR

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court has issued a show-cause notice on the writ petition filed by the Nepali Congress challenging the dissolution of the House of Representatives.

The writ, submitted by outgoing Chief Spokesperson Shyam Kumar Ghimire and others, names the President’s Office, Prime Minister Sushila Karki, the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, the Election Commission, and the Speaker of the House as respondents.

The petition alleges that the House of Representatives was dissolved unconstitutionally based on the recommendation of an individual barred by the Constitution, who was appointed as Prime Minister. It seeks the immediate reinstatement of the House of Representatives.

Additionally, the writ requests the annulment of Prime Minister Sushila Karki’s appointment and urges the appointment of a Nepali Congress parliamentary party leader as Prime Minister, citing the party’s status as a major political force.
