Govt tightens Sudan Gurung’s security after attempted attack

An attempted attack was made on Hami Nepal President, Sudan Gurung, while he was leaving his office on Wednesday evening. According to reports, a group on motorcycles followed Gurung from Ranibari to New Baneshwor Chowk, where two red cars allegedly joined in an attempt to attack him.

Gen-Z protests: Rs 50 million cash and 18 kg gold looted from Rastriya Banijya Bank

During the Gen-Z protests on September 9, Rs 50 million in cash and 18 kilograms of gold were looted from the Baneshwor branch of Rastriya Banijya Bank, it has been revealed. Nepal Rastra Bank Governor Prof. Dr. Biswo Nath Poudel disclosed the incident during a podcast with Sushant Pradhan. He said that while many government offices were damaged, Nepal Rastra Bank remained secure, but the state-owned Rastriya Banijya Bank suffered a major heist.

Sunrise Convention Center reduced to ruins after arson during Gen-Z protests

The Sunrise Convention Center, the largest in the country, located in Godawari, Lalitpur, was set ablaze and destroyed during the Gen-Z protests on September 8 and 9. The incident occurred just days after the CPN-UML held its statute convention at the venue from September 5 to 7. Once inaugurated by then-Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli in April 2021, the center has now turned into rubble.

Jhalanath Khanal’s wife showing signs of recovery after arson attack

The health condition of Rabilaxmi Chitrakar, wife of senior leader and former Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal, is gradually improving after she sustained serious injuries when her house was set on fire during the recent Gen-Z protests, doctors said on Tuesday. Chitrakar is undergoing treatment at the intensive care unit (ICU) of Kirtipur Hospital, which specializes in burn injuries. “She is in a better state compared to when she was first admitted. We are doing everything possible,” said burn specialist Dr. Kiran Nakarmi, who is leading her treatment team. According to him, surgery on her left hand is scheduled for today, with further procedures to follow depending on her progress.

Three ministers visit burnt parliament building

Three ministers inspected the parliament building in New Baneshwor on Wednesday, which was set on fire during the Gen-Z movement on September 9. Energy Minister Kulman Ghising, Home and Law Minister Om Prakash Aryal, and Finance Minister Rameshwor Khanal visited the site to assess the damage.

Ministers inspect fire-damaged ministerial official residences in Bhaisepati

Newly appointed Minister for Energy, Physical Infrastructure and Urban Development Kulman Ghising and Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal on Wednesday inspected the ministerial residences in Bhaisepati that were set ablaze during the Gen-Z protests. Even a week after the incident, the area remains uncleared. Burnt vehicles are still scattered around the compound, while the buildings stand in a severely damaged state.

Janamat leaders, including senior vice chair, call for CK Raut’s resignation

Senior Vice Chair Abdul Khan and several other leaders of the Janamat Party have demanded the resignation of party chair Dr. CK Raut. In a letter addressed to Raut, the leaders called on him to step down within 24 hours. They cited weak leadership, lack of transparency in decision-making, and activities that they say are disconnected from public sentiment, arguing that the party has failed to advance according to its core objectives and principles.

Madhav Nepal pays tribute to those who lost their lives in Gen-Z protests

Chair of the CPN (Unified Socialist), Madhav Kumar Nepal, paid tribute to all those who lost their lives during the Gen-Z protests. In a condolence statement released on Wednesday, Chair Nepal expressed deep sympathy to the bereaved families and wished for the speedy recovery of all those injured in the protests. Recalling his party’s support and solidarity with the demands of the Gen-Z movement at the time, he criticized the then-government’s arrogance and ego for causing widespread loss of life and property instead of addressing legitimate demands.

Minister Ghising visits home of Gen-Z movement martyr Maharjan

Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Physical Infrastructure and Transport, and Urban Development Minister Kulman Ghising on Wednesday visited the family of Binod Maharjan, who was declared a martyr of the Gen-Z movement. At the family’s residence in Patan, Minister Ghising offered condolences and expressed solidarity with Maharjan’s relatives.

27 gates of Koshi Barrage opened after water level rises

Rising water levels in the Saptakoshi River have led to the opening of 27 gates of the Koshi Barrage. According to Police Spokesperson Yograj Khatri, water flow at the barrage reached 207,030 cusecs per second at 11 a.m. today, prompting the move. On Tuesday night at 10 p.m., water flow was measured at 182,287 cusecs per second, with 24 gates opened. Earlier, on September 2, when the river’s flow surged significantly, 38 out of 56 gates had been opened. Flow had gradually decreased afterward but began rising again this morning, Khatri said.

Pokhara metropolis to resume services Wednesday despite widespread office damage

Pokhara Metropolitan City will restart public services from Wednesday by setting up alternative arrangements, after most of its office buildings were left damaged in the recent Gen-Z protests. Spokesperson Moti Timilsina said the city had initially planned to resume services today, but the government’s nationwide public holiday to mourn those killed in the unrest pushed the date back by a day.

Dipendra Singh Airee slips to fourth in ICC T20I all-rounder rankings

National cricket team all-rounder Dipendra Singh Airee has dropped to fourth place in the latest ICC T20I all-rounder rankings, published on Wednesday. Airee, who was previously ranked third, was overtaken by Zimbabwe’s Sikandar Raza following his strong performances in the ongoing T20I series against Namibia.

Wet Dashain likely as monsoon shows signs of late activity

Although the monsoon is typically expected to withdraw in the next 15 days, the system has shown renewed activity across Nepal, the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM) reported. Meteorologists at the DHM noted that the monsoon’s low-pressure trough remains near its average position, while moisture-laden winds from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal have also contributed to increased rainfall activity.

‘Vehicles we cherished reduced to ashes’

For drivers at Singha Durbar, Bishwakarma Puja has always been a day of reverence. In past years, they celebrated the occasion with devotion, decorating their vehicles like temples. This year, however, the grounds were marked not by worship but by the charred remains of government vehicles destroyed in the recent Gen-Z protests. Inside Singha Durbar, the burnt shells of vehicles now stand abandoned. Drivers have labeled the remains with paper notes to identify which vehicles once stood there, while others that were damaged but not destroyed have been covered with plastic.

Manakamana Cable Car resumes operations from today

The Manakamana Cable Car resumed regular service from Wednesday, a week after being suspended due to the Gen-Z demonstrations on September 8 and 9. According to Ujwal Sherchan, head of the cable car office, the service had been halted from September 10 for safety reasons, during which time routine maintenance was also carried out.

Nepal halts implementation of skilled worker deployment procedure for South Korea

The Department of Foreign Employment has announced that it will not enforce the Procedure for Sending Skilled Workers to the Republic of Korea. In a notice issued on Tuesday, the department said the decision follows directives from the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security. As a result, plans to send skilled Nepali workers to South Korea under the E-7 visa category through the business-to-business (B2B) model have been shelved.

Police working actively to retrieve looted items

The police office in Makwanpur has been active in search of the looted items from various government offices and ministries in Hetauda during the Gen-Z protest. The police persons are documenting and inspecting the CCTV footages and videos posted on social media that show the looted items and the persons involved in looting.

Narayangadh–Muglin road reopens after landslide clearance

Traffic along the Narayangadh–Muglin road section has resumed after being blocked by multiple landslides on Tuesday night. According to the District Traffic Police Office, debris from landslides at Ghoptebhir (Ward 4), Tuinkhola (Ward 5), and Namsikhola (Ward 6) of Ichchhakamana Rural Municipality had obstructed the vital highway.

Grade 12 supplementary exams rescheduled for Sept 23 and 24

The National Examination Board (NEB) has rescheduled the Grade 12 supplementary examinations for September 23 and 24. The exams were originally set for September 13 and 14 but were postponed due to the country’s current situation. According to the revised timetable, students appearing in only one subject will sit for that exam on September 23. For those taking two subjects, the exam with the smaller code number, which includes compulsory English (0041) and compulsory Nepali (0021), will be held on the first day.

Crowds at Bhadrakali temple for Bishwakarma puja 

Today, artisans marked Bastu Diwas and Bishwakarma Puja by worshipping Lord Bishwakarma. On this occasion, vehicles, factories, and various machinery were also offered rituals. Every year, Bishwakarma Puja is celebrated on the day of Ashwin Sankranti. This year, a large number of devotees gathered at Bhadrakali temple in Kathmandu to worship Lord Bishwakarma.

Minister Ghising directs removal of burnt vehicles from Singha Durbar premises

Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Physical Infrastructure and Transport, and Urban Development, Kul Man Ghising, has directed authorities to remove the vehicles torched during the recent Gen-Z protests from the Singha Durbar premises. According to his secretariat, Minister Ghising said the burnt vehicles had made the government complex appear unsightly and stressed that they should be relocated and managed elsewhere without delay.

Crowds surge at Gongabu bus park as Dashain nears

With Nepal’s biggest festivals, Dashain and Tihar, approaching, Kathmandu’s Gongabu-based New Bus Park has begun to witness heavy crowds of homebound passengers. The rush has been further intensified after Tribhuvan University and its affiliated campuses announced closures in the wake of the September 8 and 9 Gen-Z protests, prompting thousands of students to return to their home districts.
