KATHMANDU: The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has forecast heavy rainfall in some areas across five provinces today, citing the ongoing impact of monsoon winds and a low-pressure system over Uttar Pradesh, India.
According to the Department, the weather will remain generally cloudy across the country this afternoon. Light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning is likely in various areas of Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces.
Additionally, isolated heavy rainfall is expected in one or two locations within these provinces. High hills and mountainous regions may also experience light to moderate rainfall and occasional snowfall.
Strong winds are likely in parts of the Terai region of Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces, the division added.
Due to the possibility of heavy rainfall, the department has warned of risks such as flooding, landslides, and flash floods, particularly in urban areas and the Terai.
Rising water levels in rivers and streams could disrupt daily life, agriculture, health services, tourism, roads, and air transport, especially in areas near riverbanks.
The general public and relevant authorities are urged to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions.
