‘Mundum Trail Race’ to be organized to promote trekking route

BHOJPUR: The seventh edition of the ‘Mundum Trail Race’ is set to take place in Bhojpur with the aim of promoting the Mundum trekking route. The event seeks to raise awareness of the trail through sports and running.

Organizers said that the race will be held on June 21 and will cover a distance of 22 kilometers. The route will start from the tourist destination Chakhewa Bhanjyang, pass through Temkedanda to Tawabhanjyang on the Khotang border, and return via Punatabhanjyang, Panchdhare, Ratiya, Majhaule, and Hatti Kharka to Chakhewa.

According to Pavihang Rai, President of the Rimachung Education and Sports Academy, nine teams will participate in the event. Each team will include six runners — three men and three women.

The race also aims to convey the message that the trail is suitable for trekking even during the monsoon season.

In the team category, the first-place winner will receive Rs 40,000, second place Rs 30,000, and third place Rs 20,000, along with certificates. In the individual category, the top three finishers will receive Rs 15,000, Rs 10,000, and Rs 5,000, respectively.

The event is being organized with financial support of Rs 500,000 from Temkemaiyung Rural Municipality, as part of efforts to promote the Mundum trekking route.
