KATHMANDU: The Kanchenjunga Adventure Half Marathon is set to take place at the base camp of Mount Kanchenjunga, the world’s third-highest peak, under the organization of Sirijunga Rural Municipality in Taplejung.
Scheduled for April 26-28, 2025, the event will coincide with the Sirijunga Festival-2025. The marathon will be held at an altitude of 4,500 meters above sea level, offering a unique challenge for participants.
Dr Chitra Mabo, Vice-Chair of Sirijunga Rural Municipality, announced that cash prizes would be awarded to the winners: Rs 208,586 for the first place, Rs 108,586 for the runner-up, and Rs 85,586 for the second runner-up.
The race will cover a 24-kilometer route, beginning from New Jhoreni and passing through locations like Kasturedanda, Jhandedanda, Sindure Waya, Tuplung, Dundudanda, Dhaun Chowk, Bhedi Chowk, and finishing at Machhewa.
In addition to the marathon, a mountain cycling program will also be organized. The event aims to raise awareness of the impact of climate change in the region and provide an opportunity to monitor the adventure trekking route.
