Karki government to have only 11 ministers

Interim Prime Minister Sushila Karki has stated that her cabinet will have a maximum of 11 members. In an interview with BBC Nepali Service, Karki clarified that the number of ministers in the current government will not exceed 11.

Funeral held for 10 declared martyrs of Gen-Z Protests

The funeral of ten people who lost their lives during the violent Gen-Z protests of September 8 and 9 is being held today. Of the deceased, nine bodies had been kept at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital in Maharajgunj and one at Patan Hospital.

Indian Ambassador pays courtesy call on PM Karki

Finance Ministry forms taskforce to manage funds for reconstruction and elections

The Ministry of Finance has formed a three-member taskforce to identify sources of funding for reconstruction of structures damaged during the Gen-Z protests and for the House of Representatives elections scheduled for March 5, 2026. The taskforce includes Budget and Program Division Chief Suman Dahal, Foreign Aid Coordination Division Chief Dhaniram Sharma, and Revenue Management Division Chief Uttarkumar Khatri.

Election Commission begins preliminary preparations

Following the dissolution of the House of Representatives and the announcement of elections for March 5 (Falgun 21), the Election Commission has started preliminary preparations. Earlier, the by-election schedule for Rupandehi Constituency No. 3, originally set for Kartik 17, was canceled, and preparations for the midterm elections have now begun.

Government to launch integrated business recovery plan for private sector

The government plans to introduce an integrated business recovery plan targeting the private sector. Newly appointed Finance Minister Rameshwor Khanal said on Tuesday that the initiative aims to help entrepreneurs overcome challenges caused by recent disruptions.

Interim govt prepares to slash thousands of small, politically-driven projects

The interim government led by Prime Minister Sushila Karki has announced plans to cut thousands of scattered and politically motivated projects included in the current fiscal year 2025/26 budget. Finance Minister Rameshwar Khanal, who assumed office on Monday, said a significant portion of the budget, pushed through under pressure from top leaders and lacking feasibility, would be scrapped to free up funds. According to him, eliminating fragmented projects could generate as much as Rs 100 billion to support urgent reconstruction and election expenses.

Dharan Mayor breaks down, warns of foreign interference in Nepal’s politics

Dharan Mayor Harka Sampang has returned from Kathmandu empty-handed and furious, venting his anger at Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor Balen Shah after being denied a ministerial position in the interim government led by Sushila Karki. On Monday, Sampang launched a blistering attack against Balen, challenging him to contest a direct election for executive head. “Don’t underestimate me. If you dare, run for direct executive chief. If I lose, I’ll work as a servant in your house for a year. If you lose, you’ll plough my field for a month. Can you? Or will you just hide? Coward!” Sampang wrote on social media.

Prachanda visits Maoist Center office destroyed in Gen-Z protests

Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Chair of the CPN-Maoist Center, visited the party’s central office in Parisdanda, which was destroyed during the Gen-Z protests on September 8 and 9. The office building had been set ablaze during the demonstrations, marking the first time Dahal publicly appeared since the incident. He assured party members that a new, grand central office would be constructed with the help of party cadres nationwide.

Authorities start survey of damage to ministerial residences in Bhaisepati

Authorities have begun collecting preliminary data on the damage to federal ministerial residences, provincial chief and chief minister houses in Bhaisepati, Lalitpur, following arson during the recent Gen-Z protests. According to the Federal Secretariat, a detailed report on the affected structures from the September 9 incident is expected within a week. Superintending Engineer Chakrawati Kanta confirmed that initial data collection has already started.

PM Karki seeks support; Dr. Ruit declines ministerial role

Prime Minister (PM) Sushila Karki has held discussions with renowned ophthalmologist Dr. Sanduk Ruit, seeking his support for the government. During a visit to the Tilganga Eye Hospital in Kathmandu on Tuesday, Prime Minister Karki invited Dr. Ruit to join the government under her leadership, citing the special circumstances surrounding her tenure.

Remittance inflow crosses Rs 177 billion in first month of current fiscal year

Remittance inflows reached Rs 177.41 billion in the first month of the current fiscal year 2082/83, marking a 29.9% increase compared to the same period last year, according to Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB). In the same month of the previous fiscal year, remittance inflows had risen by 17.7% to Rs 136.60 billion.

11:53 am auspicious time for Dashain tika

The Nepal Calendar Determination Committee (NCDC), the authorized body of Nepal to decide dates and times for Hindu festivals, has determined 11:53 am (October 2) as the auspicious hour to receive Dashain tika this year. Dashain 2082 will begin in September 22, starting with Ghatasthapana.

Gen Z protests leave traffic police stripped of resources and authority

Kathmandu’s traffic police, known for their blue uniforms and whistles, have been forced to work without proper attire after protesters seized and mocked their outfits during recent Gen Z–led demonstrations. Social media videos showed demonstrators wearing traffic police uniforms and blowing whistles, leaving many officers on duty in mismatched clothing or even in civilian dress.

Transport department assures smooth travel during festive season

The Department of Transport Management (DoTM) has said that all necessary preparations have been completed to ensure effective transport services during the upcoming festival season. Speaking at a discussion with transport entrepreneurs and stakeholders on Tuesday, DoTM Director General Rajiv Pokharel said the department is committed to providing safe and reliable travel for passengers.

Share trading to resume on NEPSE from September 18

Share trading on the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) will resume from September 18. NEPSE has  issued a notice on Tuesday confirming that trading will restart on that date.

Friendship Bridge in Rasuwa set to be completed before Dashain

Gold prices up by Rs 1,900 per tola

The price of gold has reached a record high today. According to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association, the price of gold went up by Rs 1,900 per tola and has reached Rs 217,100 per tola.
