Friendship Bridge in Rasuwa set to be completed before Dashain

KATHMANDU: The construction of a bridge over the Lhendey Khola, in the Nepal–China border, is expected to be completed before the upcoming Dashain festival.

According to security personnel stationed at Rasuwagadhi, the project has been given high priority by the Chinese side, which has been working rapidly to finish the bridge.

While China has already completed construction work on its side, it has also begun foundation and pillar work on the Nepali side. The ground-level slab for the pillars was finished today, paving the way for the final phase of construction.

Just days ago, Chinese workers installed temporary ice pipes across the Lhendey Khola to facilitate the transport of equipment and construction materials to the Nepali side. However, continuous monsoon rains caused water levels to rise above the pipes, obstructing the flow of materials and slowing progress, according to the project’s field supervisor.

Rasuwa Chief District Officer Rajesh Panthi said that although work on the nearby Friendship Bridge at Rasuwagadhi has been hampered by heavy rainfall, progress on the Bailey bridge is moving at speed. “Given the pace of work from the Chinese side, it is expected that the bridge will be completed before Dashain, ensuring easier movement across the border,” he noted.
