Nepal-India border in Baitadi and Darchula to close due to Uttarakhand elections

KATHMANDU: Nepal-India border points in Baitadi and Darchula districts will be temporarily closed due to the election in Uttarakhand.

According to Chief District Officer Punya Bikram Paudel, the border closures are being enforced as a security measure ahead of the elections scheduled for July 24 and 28.

In Darchula, the Pulghat border point will be closed from the evening of July 21until the morning of July 24.

In Baitadi, the Jhulaghat border crossing will remain closed from July 24 to 28.

Authorities have stated that in case of emergencies, the border may be opened temporarily through mutual understanding between officials from both countries.

The move aims to ensure peaceful and secure local elections across the border in India’s Uttarakhand region.
