HoR session obstructed by RSP and RPP again

Today’s meeting of the House of Representatives has commenced, albeit with a slight delay from its scheduled 11:00 am start.

Immediately upon the session’s opening, both the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) and the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) began obstructing parliamentary proceedings.

RPP continues parliament boycott over visit visa scam

The Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) continued its boycott of the House of Representatives on Monday, walking out of the session in protest against the government’s handling of the controversial visit visa issue.

RPP lawmakers obstructed the meeting alongside the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) as soon as the session began. However, Speaker Dev Raj Ghimire proceeded with the agenda despite the ongoing protest, prompting RPP members to exit the chamber shortly afterward.

RPP to forfeit parliament allowance for boycotted session

The Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) has decided not to accept the parliamentary allowance for the House of Representatives session held on Sunday, June 15, which they boycotted.

Lingden slams speaker for forcing parliament forward

Despite opposition from the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), Monday’s meeting of the House of Representatives continued as scheduled. RPP Chair Rajendra Lingden had earlier announced that his party would boycott the session if it moved forward without addressing their ongoing concerns. Nevertheless, Speaker Dev Raj Ghimire proceeded with the meeting, sparking further criticism from the opposition party.

Santosh Pariyar slams ‘use of force’ to push House proceedings amid visa scam

Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chief Whip Santosh Pariyar strongly objected to what he called the use of force to continue House proceedings without addressing his party’s demands related to the controversial visit visa case. Speaking during Monday’s session of the House of Representatives, Pariyar criticized Speaker Dev Raj Ghimire for moving ahead with the meeting despite loud protests from opposition lawmakers.

Court orders release of RPP Leader Dhawal Shamsher Rana on bail

The Kathmandu District Court has ordered the release of Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) General Secretary Dhawal Shamsher Rana on bail.

A single bench of Judge Shiv Prasad Khanal issued the order on Monday, setting bail at Rs 300,000.

Rana was arrested on charges of playing a role in inciting violence during a royalist protest organized in Tinkune on Chaitra 15. He had previously been released on a conditional appearance bond but had failed to appear in court until now. Rana appeared before the court on Monday.

Interim order issued against arrest of Journalist Dil Bhusan Pathak

The Patan High Court has issued a short-term interim order not to arrest journalist Dil Bhusan Pathak.

A single bench of Judge Rishi Raj Bhandari issued the interim order on Monday while hearing a petition seeking a restraining order. The court has also summoned both parties for a discussion on the matter on June 19.

Pathak had moved the court seeking to halt the arrest warrant issued against him in connection with a cybercrime case.

NC and UML lawmakers missing in House meeting

The ongoing discussion on the national budget, presented by Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel in the House of Representatives, continues despite obstruction from Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) lawmakers.

The ruling coalition has pushed ahead with the debate regardless of the opposition’s protest. However, the scene inside the House on Monday painted a grim picture — a largely empty chamber.

Finance Minister Paudel was seen delivering his speech alone, with rows of empty chairs around him, raising serious questions about the ruling parties’ commitment to parliamentary proceedings.

Protest in Kathmandu in Support of Free Palestine

A demonstration was held in Kathmandu on Monday in support of a free Palestine.

Organized under the theme “Solidarity Against the Israeli Genocide,” the protest drew attention to the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

Participants carried placards with slogans such as “Don’t let war criminals enter Nepal” and “Free Palestine from the river to the sea.”

Development of tourism infrastructure is a priority: Minister Dahal

Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Devendra Dahal has said that the development of tourism infrastructure is a high priority for the government.
After observing the photo exhibition entitled ‘Mountain Tourism: Our Glory, Our Identity’ organized by the Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS), the National News Agency, today, Minister Dahal stated that infrastructure development has been prioritized for the development and promotion of the tourism sector.
The photo exhibition was organized to commemorate the 18th Republic Day.

Dhawal Shamsher Rana’s statement recorded in court over state offense charges

Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) General Secretary and Member of Parliament Dhawal Shamsher Rana appeared before the Kathmandu District Court on Monday, where his statement was officially recorded. The proceedings began at the bench of Judge Shiva Prasad Khanal following Rana’s arrival at the court. He is facing four separate charges in connection with the March 28 incident in the Tinkune area, including a case of treason (offense against the state), criminal unrest, organized crime, and charges under the integrated offenses clause. The prosecution has demanded punishment under all four charges.

Gwarko overpass to open in four days

Vehicles will be permitted to operate on the newly constructed overpass at Gwarko in Lalitpur in four days. The Department of Roads is making final preparations for its opening, following the completion of the overpass’s main structure. Deep Barahi, head of the Quality Research and Development Center, confirmed that with the primary construction now finished, the focus is on enabling vehicle operation. Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is scheduled to officially inaugurate the overpass on June 20.

Over 70% of Nepali men, 67% of women affected by sexual dysfunction

A new national survey has revealed a concerning prevalence of sexual dysfunction in Nepal, affecting 72% of men and 67% of women over the age of 30. The findings were made public on Monday during a program organized in Kathmandu by the Family Welfare Division under the Department of Health Services and Solid Nepal (Society for Local Integrated Development Nepal). This is the first comprehensive survey on sexual dysfunction in the country. Lead researcher Dr. Khem Bahadur Karki stated that among the men surveyed, 5% reported severe dysfunction, while 32% suffered from mild symptoms.

Birgunj Customs collects Rs 158 billion in revenue in 11 months

The Birgunj Customs Office has collected Rs 158.60 billion in revenue over the first eleven months of the current fiscal year, achieving 79 percent of its annual target. Chief Customs Administrator Deepak Lamichhane said revenue collection in the month of Jestha was particularly encouraging, boosted by optimism surrounding the upcoming fiscal year’s budget.

Narayan Kaji Shrestha blames govt for rising public discontent

CPN (Maoist Centre) Senior Vice-Chair Narayan Kaji Shrestha today highlighted the need to exert pressure for the swift completion of transitional justice mechanisms. Speaking at the 13th Commemoration Program for Martyr Rit Bahadur Khadka Pratap at the Maoist party office in Paris Danda, Shrestha stated that delays in completing the remaining tasks of the peace process, due to various reasons, necessitate pushing for quick action on transitional justice.

Former Minister and NC leader Dhundiraj Shastri passes away at 90

Former Minister for Industry and senior Nepali Congress leader Dhundiraj Shastri (Paudel) passed away early Monday morning at the age of 90. He died while undergoing treatment at Kathmandu’s KMC Hospital at 4:00 am, family sources confirmed. Born in 1936 in Kimdanda-8, then a village panchayat in Arghakhanchi district (now Bhumikasthan Municipality-8, Nimdanda), Shastri was the eldest son of Khemraj and Sabitra Paudel.

Mohan Baidya’s health improving significantly

Mohan Baidya, General Secretary of the Revolutionary Communist Party of Nepal, is showing significant improvement in his health after nearly a month of treatment for a chest infection. Baidya is currently undergoing care at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital in Maharajgunj. According to his daughter, Chetana Sharma, his condition has notably improved after treatment at both BP Smriti Hospital in Basundhara and the Teaching Hospital.

Wild elephant found dead in Sunsari’s Barahakshetra

A wild elephant was discovered dead today, Monday morning, in a maize field near the Kausiki Community Forest in Barahakshetra Municipality Ward No. 2, Sunsari. Barahakshetra Municipality Mayor Ramesh Karki confirmed the finding, stating that the elephant was approximately 5–7 years old.

Man killed in rhino attack in Chitwan

A 60-year-old man from Bharatpur Metropolitan City–28, Jange Kumal, died after being attacked by a rhino near the Rapti River on Sunday night. According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Rabindra Khanal, spokesperson for the Chitwan District Police Office, Kumal had gone fishing behind Meghauli Serai Hotel when a wild rhino attacked him, leaving him critically injured.

Chure Conservation Day marked with focus on sustainable management

The President Chure-Tarai Madhesh Conservation Development Board is observing the 11th Chure Conservation Day today, Monday, commemorating its establishment. A main event was held in Kawasoti, Nawalparasi, with the presence of President Ramchandra Paudel, according to Prakash Nepal, head of the Board’s Program Implementation Unit in Chitwan.

Gold and silver prices unchanged

The price of gold in Nepal remained unchanged on Monday. According to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers Association, the price of fine gold has remained at Rs 197,500 per tola today. Similarly, silver prices have also remained stable at Rs 2,165 per tola.

Madhesh Province moves toward self-reliance in milk production

Madhesh Province is on track to become self-reliant in milk production, thanks to the Rural Enterprise and Economic Development Project’s Economic Corridor Office in Bardibas, under the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development. With grant support from the project, livestock farmers have started rearing high-yield Murrah buffaloes, known for their milk-producing capacity.

Lahan Municipality launches door-to-door diabetes and blood pressure screening

Eight houses destroyed in fire in Humla’s Unapani
