HUMLA: A fire that broke out in Aul Basti of Unapani, located in Sarkegad Rural Municipality-3, Humla, has destroyed eight houses.

The blaze started in the shed of local resident Birkh Rawat late Saturday night and continued burning into Sunday morning.

Local resident Dhan Bahadur Rawat said eight houses were completely gutted. “The cause of the fire is still unknown. The family of Birkh Rawat, whose shed caught fire, used to reside in the Lekh settlement,” he said.

A police team led by Inspector Subin Shah from the Sarkegad Police Post reached the site overnight and is working to bring the fire under control, said Deputy Superintendent of Police Shankar Pokharel at the District Police Office, Humla.

The houses of Bijan Phadera, Dhan Bahadur Rawat, Janak Rawat, Birkh Rawat, Pale Phadera, Lalkaura Phadera, Dudhshila Phadera, and Batulli Phadera were among those destroyed.

The fire consumed food grains, utensils, cash, citizenship certificates, house ownership documents, and other valuables.

No human casualties have been reported. Authorities said the full extent of the damage will be assessed once the fire is completely contained.
