JANAKPURDHAM: Land ownership certificates were distributed to 64 landless families in Mithila Municipality of Dhanusha district on Thursday.
These families, who had been living as squatters in Wards 1, 6, and 7 of the municipality for years, were granted official land titles following a land survey conducted by the Land Survey Office, Dhanusha, said Office Head Umesh Saha.
The certificates were handed over by Mithila Mayor Mahendra Mahato, District Coordination Committee Chief Rajanandan Mandal, and Land Problem Resolution Commission Chair Suresh Koirala, among others.
Mayor Mahato assured that the distribution of the red passbooks would begin soon after completing the necessary legal procedures for those still awaiting documentation.
On the occasion, Chair Koirala urged all sides not to politicize the land ownership process and stressed the importance of resolving the cases of those who have long resided on the land without official ownership documents.
There are 75 village blocks in Dhanusha district, and land surveys have been completed in 72 of them. According to Saha, land ownership papers have so far been distributed in 12 village blocks.
