KATHMANDU: Teachers across Nepal have continued their agitation, demanding the immediate promulgation of the School Education Act based on prior agreements with the government.
Led by the Nepal Teachers Federation, teachers staged a sit-in protest on Wednesday, marching from their homes to Baneshwor, reiterating their stance that they will not return to work until the bill is passed.
In response to the ongoing protests, the Council of Ministers held a meeting late Tuesday night and decided to recommend summoning a session of the Federal Parliament on April 24 to expedite the passage of the School Education Bill.
The government has urged teachers to suspend their protests and return to schools, citing the ongoing evaluation of SEE answer sheets and the upcoming national examinations for Grade 12 students.
Despite this, the Federation has made it clear that the agitation will only end once the bill is officially passed by Parliament.
Educational activities nationwide remain disrupted due to the continuing protests.
