I will not engage in petty game of party split: PM Oli

Prime Minister (PM) KP Sharma Oli has expressed opposition to the idea of using an ordinance to split any political party, stating that such actions are not part of his agenda.

He reminded lawmakers that an ordinance issued by the previous government under Sher Bahadur Deuba had resulted in the splitting of the CPN-UML.

PM Oli also accused opposition parties of spreading confusion by bringing forward an ordinance targeting the public during the current government’s question-and-answer session in Parliament on Sunday.

Foreign Minister Rana meets Qatari Minister, urges assistance in release of Bipin Joshi

Qatari Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sultan bin Saad bin Sultan Al Muraikhi paid a courtesy call on Nepal’s Foreign Minister Dr. Arzu Rana in Muscat, the capital of Oman, on Sunday.

The two ministers, who are in Muscat to participate in the 8th Indian Ocean Summit, held a sideline meeting.

During the meeting, they discussed various issues, including Nepal-Qatar relations, bilateral interests, mutual benefits, scholarships for Nepali students in Qatar, and the export of skilled technical manpower.

Govt forms committee to investigate balloon explosion in Pokhara

The government has formed an eight-member committee to investigate the balloon explosion that occurred on Saturday during the inauguration ceremony of the Pokhara Visit Year 2025.

Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak formed the investigation committee on Sunday morning through a ministerial decision, with Kaski Chief District Officer Bharatmani Pandey appointed as the coordinator.

The committee includes Pokhara Metropolitan City Chief Administrative Officer Shivaraj Chaulagain, Kaski Police Chief Superintendent of Police Shyambabu Oliya, Armed Police Force Headquarters Chief Superintendent of Police Surya Prasad Timilsina, National Investigation District Office Deputy Investigation Director Suresh Kumar Tiwari as a member, and Kaski Assistant Chief District Officer Ganga Bahadur Chhetri as the member secretary.

Verdict on MP Toshima Karki delayed again

The Supreme Court has postponed its verdict on whether MP Dr. Toshima Karki will retain her position.

Karki, elected from Lalitpur-3, has been facing a legal dispute since January, when a case was filed against her.

The Election Commission had initially invalidated her candidacy, but she was allowed to contest the election following an interim order from the Supreme Court. However, a final decision on the matter has yet to be reached.

Fire at eatery: Death toll rises to four

The death toll from a fire caused by a cooking gas leak at a local eatery (momo house) in Kamalpokhari has risen to four.

According to Apil Raj Bohora, Spokesperson for the District Police Range Kathmandu and Superintendent of Police, the latest victim is 25-year-old Chhiring Lama from Dhunkharka, Bethanchok Rural Municipality in Kavrepalanchowk.

Lama had been temporarily residing in Kamalpokhari and succumbed to his burns last night.

Gold price down by Rs 2,700 per tola today

Gold prices, which saw a slight increase on Friday, fell sharply today, with silver also becoming cheaper.

The price of gold, which rose by Rs 400 per tola on Friday, has dropped significantly today (Sunday).

According to the Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers Federation, gold prices have fallen by Rs 2,700 per tola today.
