Wild elephants raid Handiya village in Udayapur, damage crops and stored grain

UDAYAPUR: Wild elephants have entered Handiya, Ward No. 10 of Chaudandigadhi Municipality in Udayapur, causing destruction and panic among local residents.

Villagers reported that the elephants, mostly active at night, have been damaging stored food and crops. Shyam Narayan Chaudhary said that last Saturday night, elephants broke into the house of local resident Amrit Adhikari and destroyed stored grain. Similarly, Pashuram Hujdar said that his rice stored in a granary was eaten by the elephants. The animals reportedly destroyed granaries and fed on plants around the houses in the middle of the night.

As a precaution, some villagers, including Sitaram Chaudhary, said they had to stay awake through the night, lighting fires to scare away the elephants. Locals believe the incidents have become more frequent with the onset of colder weather, leading to increased elephant movements into the village.
