KATHMANDU: Ncell has lodged a formal complaint with the Kathmandu District Police Office over the large-scale vandalism, arson, and looting that took place at its headquarters in Lainchaur on September 9, during the Gen-Z protests.
In the complaint filed on Monday, the company stated that its property had suffered extensive damage and requested authorities to arrest those involved, carry out necessary investigations, prosecute them under the law, and recover stolen items. Ncell has also sought compensation for losses caused by the arson.
According to the complaint, protestors formed groups, threatened security personnel by locking them in rooms, smashed glass panels at the front of the building, and forced entry to vandalize and set fire to offices on multiple floors. The attackers allegedly destroyed or looted original certificates, permits, land ownership documents, critical office papers, cash, and company safes.
The company reported that valuable electronic devices, including computers, televisions, printers, refrigerators, ovens, coffee vending machines, as well as laptops and personal belongings of employees were either looted or destroyed. Fitness equipment, meeting room monitors, and televisions were also removed or burned.
Additionally, Ncell claimed that both company-owned and leased vehicles, including high-value cars, were torched after being driven into the compound or onto nearby roads. Personal vehicles of staff were also vandalized or set ablaze, resulting in severe financial and material losses.
To aid the investigation, Ncell has provided police with a detailed list of stolen assets along with CCTV footage capturing the incidents. The company noted that an assessment is ongoing to determine the exact value of damages, with further details to be submitted to authorities in due course.
