1,717 people donate blood at single location, setting national record

CHITWAN: A total of 1,717 people donated blood at a blood donation festival organized in Bharatpur, setting a new national record for the highest number of donations collected at a single location in one day.

Blood donors from all seven municipalities of Chitwan district participated in the event, which was organized on Saturday by the Chitwan branch of Blood Donors Society Nepal.

Of the total blood collected, 1,536 units were stored by the Nepal Red Cross Society’s Provincial Blood Transfusion Center in Bharatpur, and 181 units were stored at the Bharatpur Hospital Blood Bank.

The event was held to mark International Blood Donor Day, observed globally on June 14.

“There is often a shortage of blood when it is urgently needed, yet many eligible donors do not come forward. This large-scale program was organized to raise awareness and encourage proactive blood donation,” said Ekraj Burlakoti, president of the society’s Chitwan branch and coordinator of the event.

According to Bipin Pathak, the society’s secretary and coordinator of the publicity committee, the festival set a national record for the most blood collected at a single location in one day.
