Gen-Z demands two-year term for directly elected executive

KATHMANDU: The Gen-Z Movement Alliance, the Council of Gen-Z, seven provincial coordinators, and the Gen-Z Front have submitted an agreement outlining various demands to Prime Minister (PM) Sushila Karki.

They presented the “Proposed Agreement for the People’s Movement led by Gen-Z” to Prime Minister Karki on Friday evening. The document includes an 11-point agreement, with point 5 detailing the reforms they seek in Nepal’s constitution.

The proposal calls for a nationwide citizen-wide discussion on adopting either a directly elected executive national president or a republican governance system.

It also proposes setting the age limit for elected representatives at the federal, provincial, and local levels between 21 and 70 years.

Similarly, the alliance has demanded limiting the term of office for the national head of state, the executive heads of all three tiers of government, and the Council of Ministers to two full years.

The agreement further states that the next government formed in the coming days should ensure meaningful participation of Gen Z and youth under the age of 35.

To achieve this, it proposes mandatory representation of Gen Z and youths in advisory bodies and committees, with the working procedures for all youth-related committees—including advisory committees—developed by the Gen Z group.
