NC leader Mohan Basnet criticizes general secretaries over unresolved membership disputes

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress leader Mohan Basnet has accused the party’s general secretaries Gagan Thapa and Bishwprakash Sharma of failing to resolve disputes over active membership ahead of the party’s regular general convention.

Speaking after attending a central working committee meeting in Sanepa, Basnet said the two general secretaries had left key membership conflicts unresolved at the district level, paving the way for a special general convention instead of a regular one.

He questioned the move, asking, “How can a special general convention be held when the active membership process is incomplete and district-level disputes remain unresolved?”

Basnet warned that holding a special convention would exclude participation of the younger generation and encourage a culture where leaders bypass due process under the pretext of leadership ambitions.
