Sandeep Lamichhane ends contract with CAN

KATHMANDU: Former national cricket team captain Sandeep Lamichhane has ended his central contract with the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN).

Shortly after CAN announced the squad for the upcoming ICC World Cup League-2 series on Wednesday, Lamichhane declared that he would not continue his agreement with the board.

“After much thought, I have decided not to continue with the contract of the Nepal Cricket Association this time. I do not want to step away from cricket or the nation. This is a personal and professional step forward,” he wrote on social media.

Lamichhane thanked CAN for its continued support and acknowledged the board’s contribution to his growth and to Nepali cricket. He added, “Life is a journey of growth and responsibility. There’s still much to learn, much to do, and I’m excited about cricket and the journey ahead.”

Despite his decision to forgo the contract, Lamichhane has been included in the national squad for the League-2 triangular series in Scotland.

CAN had also listed him in the Grade A category in the latest central contract classification, alongside four others. Previously, he had also played without a central contract.

CAN had earlier taken disciplinary action against Lamichhane over misconduct during a domestic league, and signs of his dissatisfaction with the board had emerged ahead of international tours.

CAN spokesperson Chhumbi Lama said the board will hold discussions regarding Lamichhane’s latest move and make necessary decisions.
