Nagarkot Visit Year kicks off with cultural festivities

BHAKTAPUR: Nagarkot Visit Year 2082 officially began today, coinciding with the celebration of the Nepali New Year.

Thousands of domestic and international tourists flocked to Nagarkot on Sunday to witness the first sunrise of the new year, marking a vibrant start to the year-long campaign.

The initiative has been jointly organized by Changunarayan Municipality of Bhaktapur, Mandandeupur Municipality of Kavrepalanchok, Banepa Municipality, and Shankharapur Municipality of Kathmandu.

Changunarayan Mayor Jeevan Khatri shared that the campaign aims to draw millions of visitors to Nagarkot, one of Nepal’s most scenic hill stations known for its panoramic views of the Himalayas and sunrise vistas.

“We have organized the festival with the aim of bringing millions of tourists to Nagarkot,” said Mayor Khatri, adding that the campaign is expected to contribute significantly to the local and national economy.

The launch featured colorful cultural performances, traditional tableaux, and lively rallies showcasing the heritage of the participating municipalities. Around 60 booths highlighting local products and crafts have been set up for visitors to explore.

Throughout the year, the four municipalities will conduct joint tourism-focused events centered on Nagarkot, while various programs will also take place at the ward level to promote local engagement.

To accommodate the influx of tourists, homestays and hotels across Nagarkot, Bhaktapur, Mandandeupur, Banepa, and Shankharapur have been prepared. Road connectivity to Nagarkot has been improved, and a direct Kathmandu–Nagarkot bus service has been introduced to ensure easy access.
