PM Karki criticizes NAC for operating on rented engines while it’s own sits idle abroad

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Sushila Karki has urged Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) to immediately retrieve and operate the engine of its A–320 aircraft currently stranded in Israel.

During a meeting with the airline’s board and management officials at Singha Durbar, the Prime Minister criticized the practice of running flights with rented engines while the airline’s own engine remains unused abroad, calling it unacceptable.

“Our own engine is just lying idle while rental costs are skyrocketing. How can this happen?” she asked. “Whether the board makes the decision or management acts, results must be delivered promptly.”

She further emphasized that no procedural excuse should delay the operation of an institution funded by public money and urged officials to make decisions in the interest of the country, the public, and the airline.

“You shouldn’t fear doing good work thinking there might be issues. Only wrong actions are something to fear,” the Prime Minister added.

The meeting was attended by Finance Minister Rameshwor Khanal, Chief Secretary Eknarayan Aryal, Tourism Ministry Secretary Hari Prasad Mainali, NAC Chair Bikram Rai, and Acting General Manager Janka Raj Kalakheti, among others.
