Rise in altitude sickness prompts alert in Upper Mustang

MUSTANG: Tourists visiting Upper Mustang have been urged to take necessary health precautions as cases of high-altitude sickness rise among visitors. Lomanthang Rural Municipality has issued a public notice advising travelers to be cautious.

According to the notice issued by Rural Municipality Chair Tashinarbu Gurung, the extreme cold in Upper Mustang is intensifying, and many tourists visiting high-altitude areas have fallen ill.

Tourists traveling to the Nepal–China Korala border point and other high-altitude areas in Upper Mustang are experiencing altitude-related health issues. Despite limited resources, the rural municipality has been providing health services to affected visitors, the notice states.

Patients suffering from altitude sickness are being transported to the provincial hospital in Jomsom via a free ambulance service.

Chair Gurung added that with the number of tourists increasing after the Dashain festival, all visitors are being asked to adopt necessary health safety measures to prevent altitude-related complications.
