Monsoon spreads to four more provinces

KATHMANDU: The monsoon, which entered Nepal 15 days ahead of schedule, has now expanded to four additional provinces, according to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology’s Weather Forecasting Division.

Meteorologist Govinda Jha reported that the monsoon has spread to parts of Madhes, Bagmati, Gandaki, and a small area of Lumbini Province, as well as the remaining areas of Koshi Province.

Although the monsoon officially entered Nepal on the night of June 1, it had temporarily stalled and even shifted toward East Asia. After a 14-day delay, it has finally made progress beyond Koshi Province.

Jha noted that it will still take a few more days for the monsoon to fully cover the remaining provinces.

The average date of monsoon onset in Nepal is June 13 — today, Friday — making this year’s early arrival and uneven spread a notable development.
