Traffic checks tightened in Kathmandu

KATHMANDU: Traffic police in Kathmandu have intensified security checks across the city today to maintain order and ensure public safety during the Holi celebrations.

As people gather in various squares and streets to celebrate the Fagu festival with colors and water balloons, traffic authorities have increased vigilance to prevent accidents and unruly behavior.

Checkpoints have been set up at major intersections and busy areas, where police are conducting thorough inspections of vehicles and monitoring drivers for violations, including drunk driving and reckless behavior.

According to the Metropolitan Traffic Police Division, the heightened security measures aim to curb accidents and maintain smooth traffic flow during the festival. Officials have urged motorists to follow traffic rules and avoid driving under the influence of alcohol.

In addition to traffic management, authorities are also keeping an eye on instances of hooliganism and harassment that can occur during Holi celebrations. The police have appealed to the public to celebrate responsibly and respect the safety and dignity of others.
